What is neutral?

I love that the huge blue velvet couch is kind of a neutral in this room. The only color you notice is pink.

This image...it follows me everywhere

Isn't this room so great?

I swear, I see it everywhere, including today on Material Girls.

Even though right now I'm liking black and white better than brown and white (happens when your apartment is from the 80's and everything looks dingy - you want to eradicate all colors that aren't crisp) I just love these brown walls. And the table? And the message board? And the blue chairs? Are you kidding me right now, House Beautiful?

Reclaimed treasures

How many things in the photo below do you think are new pieces vs. reclaimed pieces? I love how put together and rich this looks while still looking lived-in. There's a certain nobility that comes from furniture and decor that aren't right out of the box. A reclaimed piece that speaks to you is, in my opinion, a good way to avoid the "McMansion" look.

Unless of course you're into that kind of thing...

Gray=my favorite.

Look how the colors pop against this gray couch and wall:

Wall art.

Sometimes I need some high-impact, low-budget wall art. I'm thinking that the concept on the left, done on four square canvases, in the motif of the mirror on the right (that you can barely see...thanks Blogger), in some punchy color, would really fill a wall fast and stylishly.

I know, I know.

It's another white table. Love that...but also, look at that shelf! What a great way to dress up an inexpensive shelving unit (not that this one wasn't expensive...)

You could do something like this with fabric or even coordinating scrapbook paper. I love the fresh yellow.

And then there's the white table flanked with wingback chairs. I don't know if I would be so bold as to make the fabric on the chairs white...but...

Dream Office.

I think I would get a lot of work done in this office. Or at least, I would really like to look at it. I do love me the Tiffany Box Blue. This might be a little overkill, but I still think it's very pretty.

And look at that huge message board! Ahhh, the corkboard of my dreams.

Sites to Behold.

One thing about me - I love the design blogs. Oh how I love them. House Beautiful has a nice little feature called "Sites We Love" that just gave me some new places to go, which I've added to the sidebar over to the right, along with some of my old faves.

Any I'm missing out on? I welcome your recommendations!

Happy browsing...

Real-person house.

Perusing apartmenttherapy.com today and what do I find?

Just a house I love so much! The color scheme, the vibe of it all, it's just perfect.

Plus, looking at it I can tell it's a regular house that you'd find in a regular subdivision in a regular town. It's a house that real people can live in and afford.

Take a gander.

And holy craft room! I could live in there.

Pop of orange.

I love orange and I'm always looking for ways to add a little pop of it in. The rug in the living room here would be great because when you get sick of orange, you can downplay it into another color scheme, and the orange in the bedroom throw pillows is perfection. And how perfect is orange with the airy sky blue in this house?

Had to throw in the white cabinet too from this house, because hello, gorgeous.
